COMFORT &

sedation

Sometimes, getting kids and even some adults to the dentist is tricky. At The Smile Spot, patients who are nervous about seeing a dentist have the option of sedation. It is a dental service that caters to those that might otherwise avoid visiting the dentist due to anxiety or a previous trauma. Our patient’s comfort is among our highest priorities, so we have designed our office to be a relaxing space where you can receive quality dentistry without the worry, stress, or fear.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also called Anxiolysis, is the lightest form of sedation dentistry. It is often used for patients with mild anxiety, longer procedures, or more complex conditions.

Nitrous oxide, most commonly referred to as laughing gas, is delivered via a nose piece that the patient wears throughout treatment. The effect of the laughing gas wears off very quickly once the nose piece is removed.

Non-IV Conscious Sedation

Conscious sedation is the middle path between light sedation and going unconscious through general anesthesia. Approximately 30 to 60 minutes prior to treatment, an oral sedative such as Diazepam (Valium) or Midazolam (Versed) is taken to help ease dental anxiety. The medication is either take in pill or liquid form, where the body absorbs it quickly. This is a moderate form of conscious sedation dentistry and an escort or driver is required.
